We got to the room pretty late last night. But that is OK, since we didn't have anything planned.
It is a pretty nice room:
With a sauna!
and a good view of the Pacific Ocean and Lima's cliffs:
We walked for quite a while to get a feel for the city. I had RunKeeper turned on, but I subsequently deleted this walk. Don't ask me why. You can see that we were not walking too fast, but we did cover a lot of ground. We walked to a restaurant called La Mar, by a famous Peruvian chef. He also has restaurants in San Francisco and New York City. But this was his first.
This is our hotel:
There is a nice walking path that follows the cliffs along the coast
It is a pretty steep drop
Plenty of bird life on the water:
We saw many dogs. Most of them had jackets on. Which is funny, because it never gets that cold here, just a little dank.
There is a nice park called the Lover's Park which has these benches with love poems and lover's names on it. I was sitting by Esmeralda and Quasimodo. I guess if unrequited love qualifies...
Doreen was by Tristan and Isolde:
When I worked at Hierro Peru, one of my little luxuries was the Sublime chocolate bar. I had to get one. Many taste memories here.
Some of the streets have these nice pedestrian walkways down the middle of them
This is the ceviche from La Mar. Delicious.
It was a happening place
Because Lima is such an old city, built on the cliffs above the Pacific, some of the lot sizes are odd. Here is a very skinny building:
And an old lighthouse, that somehow figured in the Peruvian war.
More cliff shots
There was this brickwork on the cliffs. We wondered if there used to be a house there, that fell in one of the earthquakes
This was our walk back to the hotel. More of a stroll than a power walk.
Is La Mer, the one that's out over the ocean, with big plastic shields to keep the wind down?
