Pisac. Last stop in the Sacred Valley

When we started this drive, we thought we were just going to go to Chinchero, Urubamba to drop off our luggage, and Pisac. We added Moray and the Salt Pans on the fly, and that was a very good idea. They were great fun.

But we were getting tired by the time we got to Pisac, so we probably didn't give it the time it deserved.

A guide came up to us and said he would work for tips (don't we all) and also said that Pisac was bigger and more important than Machu Picchu. Of course, he was working at Pisac, not Machu Picchu. We didn't hire him, since we knew it was going to be a relatively short stop.

Here's a story about Victor Hugo I forgot to relate. As we were on our way, he said he had a great book about the Cuzco area, and would we mind if he stopped by and picked it up from his wife? Well, what can you say, so he called his wife and she met us on the side of the road with the book. It was a very nice coffee table book of many photos of the Cuzco area. We were afraid that he was going to try to sell it to us. But he didn't - he just wanted us to look at the photos.

So we got to Pisac, and here was the first view:

Many terraces.

then these little houses:

and it was VERY cold and windy.

but there were terraces everywhere!

So my guess is that this was more of a farming town than an executive retreat.

But the walls were again amazing

and in different colors

hand for scale.

One interesting thing is that everyone loves lintels.

and we all love getting our photos taken in the doors below the lintels.

 Many, many terraces
It is hard to see here, but those are my initials in the mountain!

It is a very pretty valley. Two days after this trip, we would be back to spend two nights here.
